Following on from its 100% electric cars and mopeds, the German manufacturer is set to launch the X2City, a sophisticated electric scooter priced at around €2,500 euros.
BMW is due to market an electric scooter before the end of the year. The contraption, called X2City, was developed by the German manufacturer's two-wheeled vehicle department in collaboration with cycle manufacturer ZEG, reported website ebike-generation in early July. In order to get your hands on one of these contraptions, you will need to spend around €2,500, a price tag that sits well above the market average.
Autonomy for between 25 and 35km
The two-wheeled vehicle has a brushless motor mounted on its rear wheel, which is powered by a 408Wh lithium-ion battery that can be charged in 2.5 hours from a standard plug socket. There are five driving modes available, which can be adjusted on the handlebars' selector: 8, 12, 16, 20 or 25 km/h, its top speed. The motor assistance kicks in at 6km/h and can be stopped by braking or flicking a switch on the brake lever, reported website Caradisiac. The X2City boasts autonomy of between 25 and 35km, depending on how it is driven.
Front and rear lights and adjustable disc brakes
The scooter, which weighs 20kg, has large wheels equipped with pneumatic tyres that enable it to be driven on all types of urban terrain. Various safety features, such as front and rear lights and adjustable disc brakes, have been added to the two-wheeled vehicle, which also has a USB plug for charging other devices.
The BMW Motorrad X2City can be ridden from age 14 and without a helmet, although it is recommended that the rider wears one. It should be available before the end of the year in BMW car dealerships. This scooter expands the German manufacturer's range of electronic vehicles, which already includes its i3 and i8 cars and its C-Evolution moped.
