Recently announced by Elon Musk on Twitter, the latest update of Tesla’s operating system has been made available to some American customers. The latest software version includes new video games and a feature that enables text messages to be read out loud.
Tesla’s latest update is packed with new communication and in-car entertainment features, including the ability to read and respond to text messages. However, the sending of group messages is not enabled, as reported by the website Electrek, referring to Tesla’s release notes.
No safety hazard
In order to send and receive messages, users must enable notifications on their device from the phone’s Bluetooth settings. The feature’s voice command minimises the need to touch the car’s screen, allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road.
“When a new message is received press the right scroll wheel button to have your text message read out loud and press again to respond by speaking out loud,” says Tesla in its release notes. Users can also choose to play a chime whenever a new text message is received.
CEO Elon Musk announced the 2019.40.50 update on Twitter on 20 December, three days before Tesla began pushing it. Initially available to a select few owners in the USA, the update will eventually be pushed out to all Tesla owners in the States and the rest of the world, though the company has yet to say when.
The software update also includes new video games and a range of driving visualisation improvements, including the display of stop lights and stop signs. Voice commands have also been improved “to understand natural language”.
